Can Kids use the gym while the gym floor is being worked on?
The short answer is no. There are very few things we do in the gymnasium where kids can be present. With the proper safety laws in place it is important to maintain a contained work environment. While we are working on gym floors, we are often prepping the whole surface and therefore cannot have anyone in the area other then our workers. We cannot allow an opportunity for contaminants to get on the gym floor or the possibility of unforeseen accidents.
Can you repair my hardwood sports floor?
Most often we can fix your hardwood sports floor if some sanding life is left in the floor. Sanding life is the amount of wood remaining above the fasteners. We cannot sand past the staple or cleat. Look over the entire floor, are nail heads showing anywhere? To determine if there is still sanding life in the floor, you should call in a gymnasium hardwood flooring expert.
Can you shine up my hardwood floor?
Yes! In order to make your floor shiny again, we do a maintenance coat. Maintenance, like on anything, is very important to ensure your floor retains its beauty and extends its lifespan. To do a maintenance coat you need to decide what type of finish you want to use. You need to know what types of finish have been previously used to make an informed decision. A professional Sports flooring contractor will ask that your gymnasium is cleaned prior to their arrival. Then they will abrade the floor with sanding screens, clean the dust debris off the floor and apply 2+ coats of finish on the floor. Different finishes have different curing times, so ensure you know how long it will take for your finish to cure before light traffic and regular use can commence. We suggest that the contractor of your choice removes the baseboards before coating if possible. This helps to keep the baseboards looking good and allows proper cleaning.
Can you add a logo to my hardwood floor?
You do not need to sand your floor down to raw wood to add paint. You can add game lines and logos throughout the life of the floor. Keep in mind, in order to remove them, you need to sand down to raw wood. If you have an old logo in the center circle or an old sponsor you need to remove but don’t want to sand the whole floor you can do this. We incorporate a maintenance coat into this process. We would ask you to clean your floor and remove everything from the floor. We then would lightly sand the floor with a sanding screen. At this point we can add new paint. We can paint over the old logo inside the center circle with a solid color such as black, and then add your new logo on this. Once all the paint is completely dry, we then add 2+ coats of finish over the entire floor. We suggest that you do at least 1 more maintenance coat the following year before going on a slower maintenance schedule to make sure that you don’t “burn through” the finish and logo paint.
Can you make my old hardwood floor look new again?
Yes! We can make it look brand new by sanding down to raw wood. We then would add new game lines/logos/staining etc. If you don’t want to go that far and you are on a bit of a tighter budget, you can do a maintenance coat. This will make your floor shiny again and brighten up the room.
Can you put water-based finish over top of Oil-Based finish?
The short answer is yes. You can go from water to oil or for that matter from oil to water. You cannot however go back and forth. You cannot go water-oil-water or for that matter oil-water-oil. We call this sandwiching. With humidity swings the products move at different rates and if a product is sandwiched it will lose adhesion.
I bought new Volleyball posts and they don’t fit in my floor. What can I do?
You can make the hole in the floor larger by coring new holes in the same locations, installing new socket sleeves to put the new volleyball posts into.
I use the same hole in the floor for Volleyball and Badminton, but we want the larger Volleyball posts, can I still share the Badminton and Volleyball holes?
Yes, you will make the hole in the floor for the bigger posts, and then purchase a “sleeve” that goes inside the hole in the floor so that it is smaller when you need it for the smaller post.
Can you add game lines to my sports floor?

How long will it take to complete my Harwood Gymnasium Floor?
This is different for every contractor. A general rule is below. Please note that Gamedays time lines are much less.
- Sanding floor and adding new graphics - 3 weeks
- Maintenance coating - 1 week
- Install a new gym - 6 weeks
When can I use my gymnasium floor after you are complete?
Most water-based finishes are 7 days from the time of last coat of finish
Most Oil-based finishes are 14 days from the time the last coat was applied
Is the gymnasium finish VOC Compliant?
How smelly is Gymnasium Finish?
The water-based finish has virtually no odor. It smells like latex paint in your home. Oil based finish smells like Oil based paint that you used to use in your home or industrial settings. Oil based finish is definitely smellier, and we don’t suggest having persons in the area that are scent sensitive. Gameday recommends using water-based products in most settings.
How long will my new / re-sanded floor last?
This is really up to you. If you do regular maintenance, and use the floor properly, you can have your floor last well over 20 years before having to sand the floor down again to raw wood or installing a new floor. Unfortunately, people try to save money on the short term and skip maintenance. This runs the risk of the finish getting too thin and will start to wear through game lines or wear down to bare wood. If you allow this, you need to sand the floor down to raw wood or replace the floor. You also need to ensure you hire a company that is dedicated to quality of craftsmanship. If the maintenance work is done improperly, it might not have been done at all.
Can I add a new height adjuster or glass backboard to my existing basketball backstop?
Yes, if the existing structure can support the added weight. Please contact a qualified sports contractor or structural engineer to assess your buildings capabilities to support the new weight loads. We take into consideration the size of the mast and supporting structure the backboard is mounted to, the distance from the wall for side swing units, the anchor points in the wall. We also look to see if the current unit is a recognized distributer. This helps us to know the quality of the unit for things like welds and materials. Any work that is done on your unit should always come with a full maintenance check. This should include looking at all bolts to ensure that they are whole and not worn through with friction over the years, re-lubing all pivot points, looking at all the steel cable to make sure it is not frayed anywhere. There is more to the inspections, but that is a general starting point.
Can you fix my basketball backstop?
If your basketball unit is not overloaded, outdated and is from a recognized manufacturer; Gameday can inspect, repair and re-warrantee all competitor’s overhead gymnasium equipment.
Can you add a safety strap to my basketball backstop?
If you have a basketball unit that hangs from the ceiling you should have a safety strap on it. Safety straps are probably the most important part of a basketball backstop. In an event where the steel cable breaks, a safety strap will stop it’s fall immediately. Gameday will happily install a safety strap. We only use the industry leading auto-loc safety strap. We can also provide the safety strap so your maintenance people can install if that is preferable. We want every moving unit to have safety straps because, everyone that walks into your gymnasium, should walk out.
Can you add power or a winch to my basketball equipment?
In most cases Gameday can add a winch. The basketball unit needs to have a full inspection and able to meet requirements for recertification to add a power option. Any work that is done on your unit should always come with a full maintenance check. This should include looking at all bolts to ensure that they are whole and not worn through with friction over the years, re-lubing all pivot points, looking at the steel cable, etc.
Can we still use facility if you are working on overhead equipment or bleachers?
If your facility has a divider curtain you can use one half of gymnasium while we work on other side of divider curtain. We need to ensure a safe work environment for our employees and a safe environment for all the people in your facility. In order to do this, we need to have an area that is not accessible by persons not employed by Gameday. All of Gamedays staff have training certificates to ensure that they are working safely and Gameday is COR certified. We take safety very seriously!
Can you warrantee / recertify my basketball backstop?
If the unit is from a known manufacturer and we can see that it can be brought back up to Gamedays high safety standards, then yes. We will do this once a full inspection and report is generated including, all maintenance and fixes. Gameday will then warrantee / recertify a Gameday unit and our competitor’s equipment. This can be an ongoing thing to help with budgets and give you piece of mind knowing Gameday has your best interests at heart. Gameday is committed to the safety of your gymnasium. We strive to ensure that everyone that walks into your gym walks out. We strongly recommend taking a yearly look at all your overhead equipment, especially if it moves. NEVER stand under or near moving overhead equipment.
Can you supply parts for my basketball / bleachers / divider curtains?
Gameday has created many strategic partnerships to provide parts and equipment for most gymnasium equipment available on the market. If we don’t have it, they don’t make it. If they don’t make it, Gameday can create it for you. Our manufacturing plant has many years of experience creating custom solutions of our client.
Can you fix my divider curtain?
A lot of the first-generation divider curtains are very complicated, many moving parts and cables. For this reason, it is very labour intensive to fix these units. A brand-new divider curtain is often a fraction more then fixing your old divider curtain or sound wall. This being said there are many units that we can fix. It depends on the problem you are having. If the bottom of the curtain is ripped, then we most likely can fix this. If the motor is broken, depending on the manufacturer, we can install a new one. Remember to install a safety strap to your divider curtains.
Can you fix my rubber floor?
There are many types of synthetic gymnasium flooring. A poured floor or seamless floor is very repairable at reasonable cost. A sheet good or welded sports floor is much more difficult to repair and difficult to hide the repair. That being said most synthetic sports floors can be repaired to be safe and usable.
